Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore has accused Karnataka BJP leaders of acting against Tamil Nadu’s interests in the Cauvery water issue and creating unrest to prevent water release.

In a statement, Tagore said the Tamil Nadu government’s case in the Supreme Court—filed after Karnataka allegedly failed to release water as directed by the Cauvery Water Management Authority—was scheduled to come up for hearing on Monday.

He claimed that, anticipating the hearing, the Karnataka government had begun releasing water from Kabini. However, he alleged that BJP leaders in Karnataka, including B S Yediyurappa and Vijayendra, announced “dam siege” protests to stop the release and heighten tensions.

Tagore said the Congress would question any wrongdoing in Karnataka even if a Congress chief minister is in office, but asked why Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss were not speaking out against what he called the Karnataka BJP’s “betrayal”. He also questioned whether they had any concern for farmers in Tamil Nadu.
