At the DMK Lawyers’ Wing’s North Zone consultation meeting held at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai, Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp attack on the TVK government, alleging it was acting out of “insecurity” and making arrests by drawing up lists.
He recalled being arrested for stating that water had not come in the Cauvery, and said the episode energised DMK cadres. Describing the trip to Thanjavur, he said party workers gathered along the route and offered food and drinks to both the team and police personnel.
Udhayanidhi also criticised the manner of the arrest, claiming that if he had been informed a day earlier he would have stayed in Thanjavur, and alleged that a “road show” was conducted at public expense without necessity.
Taking aim at ministers, he said people understand them only when they are referred to by nicknames, listing several such labels. He further alleged major corruption in the appointment of government advocates and said the matter should be pursued with evidence until punishment is secured through the courts.
He also cited an incident in Coimbatore, alleging that a student who shared information about drug sales was exposed by police and later killed. He claimed ministers would soon be caught in major cases and urged that, just as DMK members are now seeking bail, TVK members too should be made to seek bail through legal action.
