ISRO has established a world-class training and isolation facility for astronauts under the Gaganyaan programme, named Gaganyatri Nivas, at Sriharikota.
Until now, India did not have a dedicated training school and quarantine centre specifically for astronauts preparing for space missions. This meant that training and related preparations had to be supported through facilities outside the country.
The report notes that the first batch of Gaganyaan astronauts—Prashanth Nair, Shubhanshu Shukla, Angad Pratap, and Ajit Krishnan—underwent training in Russia and the United States due to the absence of such infrastructure in India.
With the new centre, ISRO aims to provide mission-ready preparation and isolation support within the country for future astronaut training needs linked to Gaganyaan.
