Renovation work at Kudladampatti Falls near Madurai has not started even after 250 days since the foundation stone was laid, leaving tourists and local visitors disappointed.

Located about 30 km from Madurai near Vadipatti, the falls receives water flow for around eight months a year. Facilities at the site—including the bathing area, handrails, pathways, changing rooms and toilets—were damaged after boulders rolled down during Cyclone Gaja in 2018, following which the Forest Department imposed a ban on bathing.

In 2024, funds of Rs 3 crore were allocated for restoration, and Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the foundation stone on December 7, 2025. However, tourism enthusiasts allege that even tender-related steps have not begun and say they have been unable to reach Forest Department officials.

Tourism Department officials said their department has only allocated the funds and that the Forest Department will execute the development works. They added that while the plan was to begin after elections, administrative reasons caused delays and tenders would be initiated soon.

Residents and visitors say reopening the falls could improve local livelihoods and have urged authorities to complete the renovation without further delay.
