Tirunelveli police have arrested eight people, including a husband and wife, in connection with a gold jewellery theft worth about Rs 20 lakh near Radhapuram.
The theft was reported from the house of Siluvaidasan (84), a retired Agriculture Department employee from Michael Street in Soundirapandiyapuram. Unknown persons allegedly broke into his home a few days ago and fled with gold ornaments.
Following an investigation, Radhapuram police first arrested six suspects: Suresh (35) of Kalakkadu, Marimuthu (24) of Chettikulam in Radhapuram, Balakrishnan (26) of Parameswarapuram, Muthuraj (21) of Nanguneri, Manikandan (33) of Kanyakumari, and Michael Anthony Prakash (37) of Soundirapandiyapuram.
Later, Masanam (46) and his wife Muthumari (36), both from Thalapathisamuthiram in Nanguneri, were also taken into custody, taking the total arrests to eight. Police said the stolen gold jewellery has been seized and further inquiries are under way to identify any additional links to the case.
