India sealed a commanding 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle, wrapping up the match after dismissing the hosts for 206 in their chase of 372.
Batting first, India posted 462 in the opening innings, led by Devdutt Padikkal’s 167. Sri Lanka replied with 284, with Dinusha scoring 100 and Dickwella making 80 to steady the innings after early losses.
With a 178-run lead, India’s second innings slipped quickly as wickets fell in clusters. Rishabh Pant top-scored with 66, while Padikkal added 44 and KL Rahul 35, as India were bowled out for 193 to set Sri Lanka a target of 372.
Sri Lanka ended day four at 84 for 4, and on the final day only D. Silva (59) and Dinusha (84) offered resistance. The rest fell at regular intervals as India completed the win.
Manav Sudar led the bowling with six wickets in the final innings. Prasidh Krishna took two, while Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja claimed one each.
