A magistrate court in Nadia district has issued an arrest warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in connection with a case linked to her public remarks.
According to the case details, Moitra attended a meeting of party functionaries outside her constituency office on July 1, during which eggs and stones were allegedly thrown at her. She later made comments criticising the incident.
A complaint was filed alleging that her remarks hurt religious sentiments, and the court issued summons asking her to appear. However, she did not appear despite multiple summons being served.
After the Parliament session, a Kolkata court had also directed her to appear at a police station for questioning. Moitra has challenged that order before the Supreme Court.
The Krishnanagar 3rd Judicial Magistrate Court issued the arrest warrant citing her continued non-appearance. The court noted that it could consider her request for exemption from personal appearance only if she appears in person.
