New Delhi: BJP leader Nitin Nabin has alleged that the Congress has “emerged as the new Muslim League party”, reacting to a resolution passed at a Congress Working Committee meeting in Delhi.
According to the BJP leader, the Congress Working Committee decided that only the first two stanzas of the song ‘Vande Mataram’ would be sung at Congress meetings.
In a statement, Nabin said the Congress had now “formalised” what he described as disrespect through an official resolution. He claimed that a similar act of disrespect had recently surfaced in the conduct of an individual, which he said was earlier dismissed as an isolated incident.
Calling it an insult to “Bharat Mata”, he argued that the move also disrespects thousands of freedom fighters who kept the national song alive in public memory and sacrificed their lives for the country.
Nabin further said the decision was not merely political posturing, but reflected what he described as the Congress’ vote-bank-driven approach, and reiterated his charge that the party has now turned into a “new Muslim League”.
