Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Tuesday made pointed remarks in the Tamil Nadu Assembly amid a debate over opposition demands for “evidence” to back claims made by ministers.

During the discussion, Minister Rajmohan said ministers were raising various issues but the opposition kept asking for proof. He added that the Chief Minister had collected supporting material, and suggested the opposition would be in a difficult position if it was presented.

Responding, CM Vijay said he had initially decided not to speak on the matter. He referred to a statement made about a week earlier by the Finance Minister, who had said that details from a review of three departments were available on the Chief Minister’s table.

Vijay said the information was indeed with him “with evidence” and cautioned against forcing it to be “opened” prematurely. He said it would be opened at the right time, and added that he would speak when necessary, remarking that the by-election should “do good for some people.”
