The Southern Zonal Council conference began on Wednesday (August 20) at Kovalam near Chennai, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Chief Minister Vijay represented Tamil Nadu at the meeting. The chief ministers of Kerala (Satheesan), Karnataka (Sivakumar) and Andhra Pradesh (Chandrababu Naidu) also took part.

From Puducherry, Lieutenant Governor Kailashnathan attended, while Telangana was represented by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

The meeting is aimed at finding amicable solutions to inter-state issues and disputes. Sources said discussions are expected on matters such as the Mullaperiyar dam, Cauvery water sharing and the Mekedatu dam issue, along with infrastructure projects, industrial investments and tourism development.
