Finance Minister Maria Wilson on Tuesday said the Tamil Nadu government would soon provide a permanent solution to long-standing issues related to protecting the Tamirabarani river, which she said had remained unresolved under previous administrations.
Speaking to reporters in Tirunelveli, Wilson said the next phase of steps under the Tamirabarani protection plan would be taken up shortly. She added that the Water Resources Department is overseeing the work.
Wilson also referred to the Chief Minister’s announcement on providing cars to MLAs, noting that the demand had been pending for a long time and that the move would help legislators carry out their duties more effectively. She said the announcement reflected requests raised by various members, including those from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi.
On the state’s finances, the minister said Tamil Nadu’s economic position is improving and that further financial reforms would be visible in the coming days. She said she had explained details on fiscal reforms and GDP in the Assembly, and that steps are being taken in the first quarter to reduce the debt-to-GDP ratio.
Wilson added that the Chief Minister has appointed her as the district in-charge minister for Tirunelveli, and reiterated that the government would act through appropriate plans to deliver a lasting resolution for the Tamirabarani protection issue.
