Tamil Nadu has set up special units to receive public complaints about police bribery, abuse of authority and indiscipline. Dedicated mobile and WhatsApp numbers have been announced for each district and city.

The move follows the state government’s stepped-up anti-corruption drive after the Vijay-led TVK government assumed office. Earlier, a state-level WhatsApp number—94981 80936—was released for reporting bribe demands in government offices, which officials said received a positive public response.

As the next phase, the complaint mechanism has been extended to the police department through separate units operating locally across districts and major cities. The new channels are intended to make it easier for citizens to flag alleged wrongdoing by police personnel.

According to the Director General of Police, the identity of complainants and witnesses will be kept confidential. The functioning of these special units will be continuously monitored by senior police officers, and the public has been urged to report corruption and malpractice without fear.
