New Delhi: The BJP has accused the Congress of paying social media influencers to publicise Rahul Gandhi’s programme in Pune.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to attend an event titled “Chhatron Ki Goonj” (Voice of Students) at a college ground in Pune on August 22. Police have granted permission for the programme with 30 conditions, according to the report.

Amid this, the BJP alleged that Congress representatives offered Rs 25,000 each to YouTubers and other influencers to promote the event on social media. The party said the amount was promised as travel expenses.

The BJP also posted what it described as a phone conversation on its official X handle. In the clip, a person identified as a Congress functionary is heard asking an influencer to highlight Rahul Gandhi’s event online and assuring payment.

Citing the recording, the BJP criticised Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and claimed he was trying to “buy” public support. The party further alleged that Congress raises questions about electronic voting machines after electoral defeats.
