Chennai: Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly that 59 MLAs from the DMK will not accept cars proposed to be provided by the government.
He said the government has decided to offer new vehicles to all MLAs. However, he pointed out that Chief Minister Vijay has repeatedly stated that the state is facing severe financial constraints.
Udhayanidhi said the decision was taken following instructions from DMK president M.K. Stalin, with the aim of avoiding unnecessary expenditure for the government.
He also urged the government to consider the financial status declared by members in their nomination papers and to provide vehicles under the scheme only to those legislators who are economically disadvantaged.
