Tiruppur-based preparations for Vinayagar Chaturthi have gathered pace, with Hindu Munnani announcing plans to install around 1.5 lakh Ganesha idols across Tamil Nadu.
The organisation said idol-making is underway at full scale in Tiruppur district, including at Alagumalai and Vanchipalayam. The idols are expected to be dispatched across the state after the first week of September.
Hindu Munnani leader Kadeswara Subramaniam said the idols are being made in an environment-friendly manner. He added that multiple forms—such as Sivarupa Vinayagar, Darbar Vinayagar, Anna Vahanam Vinayagar and Adiyogi Vinayagar—are being prepared in sizes ranging from 3 feet to 10 feet.
According to the organisation, idols will be placed in about 20 lakh homes, and immersion processions will be held at 600 locations. In Tiruppur city alone, 1,008 idols are planned, while the district total is expected to be around 5,000.
This year’s Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations are set to begin on September 14 and continue for a week under the theme, “Tamil culture and Sanatana Hindu dharma are one.” Immersion processions are scheduled in Tiruppur on September 17, Coimbatore on September 18, and Chennai on September 20.
