Chennai: Opposition leader Udhayanidhi has accused the state government of failing to deliver the Kuruvai special package funds announced by the Chief Minister to farmers.

In a statement, he said it was “highly condemnable” that the package had not reached beneficiaries even after two months. He linked the setback in Kuruvai cultivation to water not being released from the Mettur dam on June 12.

Udhayanidhi recalled raising the demand for drought relief for farmers in the Assembly. He said the Chief Minister had responded by citing funds earmarked for the Kuruvai special package, but alleged that the amount mentioned has still not been disbursed.

Referring to media reports on the issue, he questioned whether the government had taken note or was showing its usual indifference to farmers’ problems. He also criticised the government for acting faster on other matters, and urged immediate steps to ensure the Kuruvai package reaches farmers.
