Union minister J.P. Nadda on Wednesday accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of staging a “new drama” at a Delhi police station to divert public attention.

In a statement, Nadda said the country was once again witnessing what he called Rahul’s “cheap, attention-seeking politics”. He claimed the day’s protest was not for students or justice, but reflected Congress’ political frustration and a bid to draw media focus.

Referring to the Jantar Mantar protest-related issue, Nadda noted that the Supreme Court has constituted a five-member committee headed by a former judge. He questioned what Rahul intended to prove by sitting before cameras outside a police station when the matter is under the court’s consideration, and asked whether the Opposition leader lacked faith in the judiciary.

Nadda also said the Congress was facing criticism nationwide over the “Vande Mataram” controversy, with people questioning the party over alleged disrespect to the song. He further alleged that Rahul’s move was aimed at deflecting attention from the party’s embarrassment, citing an incident in which a Congress leader cut a cake shaped like the tricolour.
