Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) police have arrested 816 government officials and employees over the past five years in connection with bribery.

According to DVAC officials, action is initiated based on complaints received from the public as well as credible information. The department conducts preliminary and detailed inquiries before registering cases and proceeding with legal action.

Officials said searches were carried out at 600 locations during the period, covering residences and offices linked to those named in bribery complaints and cases.

In total, DVAC registered 1,653 cases in the last five years and arrested 816 officials and staff members, including those caught red-handed, they added.
