Home Minister Amit Shah held a key consultation in Kolkata to review border security in the Siliguri Corridor area of West Bengal, commonly known as the “Chicken’s Neck”.

The Siliguri Corridor is a narrow land stretch that links India’s Northeast with the rest of the country. Reports noted that Bangladesh and China have entered into an agreement to implement a Teesta river management project near the corridor’s border areas, raising concerns over India’s frontier security.

According to the report, the meeting focused on how to respond to what was described as direct threats from China and Bangladesh, and on steps to strengthen security arrangements along the border.

West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari also took part in the discussions.

Earlier, Shah attended a ‘Bada Khana’ event in Siliguri, where he dined with Army personnel.
