Islamabad: Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, 73, was sent back to prison after completing a court-ordered medical examination.

Khan, a former cricketer, has been lodged at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since 2023 after being convicted in multiple corruption cases. His family had said he was suffering from severe mental stress and vision-related problems.

Following these claims, Pakistan’s Supreme Court on August 18 directed that he be provided high-quality medical care. A petition filed by the Pakistan government opposing the order was dismissed.

As part of the process, Khan was admitted around midnight to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. A medical team comprising an eye specialist, a cardiologist and a general physician examined him and stated that he was in good health.

After the tests were completed, he was taken back to Adiala Jail at around 5:00 am the next day, officials said.
