Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) leader G.K. Vasan may be considering a return to the Congress party or joining its alliance, according to TMC functionaries.
The speculation comes after the TMC exited the BJP-led alliance following the Assembly election defeat. Around the same time, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore appealed for leaders with a Congress legacy in the state to unite to help bring Congress to power.
Tagore also issued a statement praising the late G.K. Moopanar, founder of the TMC and Vasan’s father, on his birth anniversary. In recent days, Vasan has been seen making remarks supportive of Congress.
TMC sources said Vasan met senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi during the release event of a book authored by MDMK general secretary Vaiko. They said the two leaders renewed their old friendship.
The functionaries added that Vasan is keen to be part of the TVK alliance for the upcoming local body elections and to work in coordination with Congress. They said he is expected to visit Delhi soon to discuss with the Congress high command whether to formally rejoin the party or align with its coalition.
