Bangladesh was shaken after four members of a Hindu family, including a 12-year-old boy, were found dead inside a locked house in Rangpur city.

Police said the bodies were recovered around 11.30 pm on Saturday from a house in the Daspara area. The deceased were identified as Ganapati Chakravarty (65), a retired school teacher, his wife Pritilata Chakravarty (50), their daughter Agami Chakravarty Prarthi (23), and their son Priyam Chakravarty (12).

A case has been registered and police have begun probing the cause behind the deaths, describing them as mysterious. Forensic experts also conducted examinations at the scene.

Relatives said they grew anxious after the family’s mobile phones were switched off and went to the house at night. They found the door locked and the lights turned off, after which police arrived, broke open the lock and recovered the bodies.

The incident has drawn attention amid reports of rising attacks and crime targeting Hindus in Bangladesh in recent times, adding to the shock over the deaths of an entire family.
