The BJP has decided to hold a year-long celebration to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in top executive office, spanning his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and later as Prime Minister.

Modi took charge as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and remained in the post until he became Prime Minister on May 26, 2014. He has completed 12 years as Prime Minister and is currently in his 13th year.

According to the party, Modi will complete 25 years in leadership positions on October 7 this year, a milestone it described as unprecedented in India. The report noted that former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik served for 24 years each, while former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu served for 23 years.

A BJP functionary said the year-long programme will not be limited to celebrations, but will also highlight achievements and changes attributed to Modi’s governance in Gujarat and across India over the last 25 years. The functionary cited India’s rise from 11th to 4th in the global economy since 2014, the claim that 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty, expansion in medical colleges and MBBS seats, and an increase in airports.

The party also plans outreach programmes, including door-to-door contact drives across the country, aimed at taking these messages to students and youth over the next year.
