Ethel Caterham of the UK, described as the world’s oldest person, celebrated her 117th birthday with her family, according to reports from London.
Born in 1909 in Shipton Bellinger in Hampshire, Caterham is currently living in a care home in Surrey. She marked the occasion with her grandson, granddaughter and great-grandchildren.
Caterham married Norman, a British Army lieutenant colonel, and lived in places including Hong Kong. She had two daughters.
She is said to have witnessed both World Wars. In 2020, at the age of 110, she contracted COVID-19 and later recovered.
The report also notes that in her younger years she travelled to India and worked caring for children.
