A Panama-flagged cargo vessel carrying iron ore has sunk in the Bay of Bengal near Odisha, triggering an intensive search-and-rescue operation.

According to the report, the ship had departed from Myanmar on its way to Singapore. There were 24 people on board, including 20 Chinese nationals.

The vessel reportedly went down suddenly while it was passing off the Odisha coast. The cause of the sinking was not stated in the available information.
