Heavy rainfall continuing for several days in Uttarakhand has triggered landslides at multiple locations, disrupting normal life and forcing the closure of more than 80 roads, officials said.
On the Mussoorie–Dehradun road, overnight downpour led to a section of the road giving way, bringing traffic to a standstill. Vehicles were stranded for kilometres as authorities worked to manage the congestion.
To ease the jam, traffic was diverted via the Kimadi road. After repair work, officials allowed only light vehicles to use the affected stretch.
In Uttarkashi district, the Gangotri National Highway was temporarily closed due to landslides. The India Meteorological Department warned that heavy rain may continue over the next 24 hours in areas including Dehradun, Tehri, Pithoragarh and Nainital, with the risk of landslides and falling rocks.
