Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has urged that future cases of severe corruption should attract the death penalty, in a set of suggestions he said he would place before Chief Minister Vijay.

In his post, Vembu said Tamil Nadu could examine Singapore’s legal approach to drug trafficking and serious corruption. He noted that Singapore prescribes the death penalty for such offences and enforces these laws firmly.

Alongside stricter punishment, he argued that salaries for ministers and senior civil servants, including IAS and IPS officers, should be raised substantially. He described pay revision as crucial to strengthening governance.

Vembu also proposed that, to avoid prolonged debate over past wrongdoing, a general amnesty could be considered for earlier offences, to be implemented only after proper review and legal procedures through the courts.

He added that Singapore’s courts function efficiently and said India could learn from their working. Vembu said he has long admired Singapore’s former leader Lee Kuan Yew and believes his approach should be studied.
