Security was increased outside Shah Auditorium in New Delhi after social media posts claimed police had granted permission for a protest against caste-based reservation.
The mobilisation is being linked to the “Reservation Reforms” campaign, which has been calling for intensified protests on the issue. In a demonstration held at Jantar Mantar two days ago, hundreds reportedly participated, raising slogans against caste-based reservation and demanding economic criteria for reservation. Protesters also voiced opposition to new UGC rules.
Following the viral posts about a proposed next-stage protest at Shah Auditorium, police presence was strengthened amid concerns that more youths could gather at the venue.
Delhi Police, however, clarified that no permission has been given for any protest at Shah Auditorium. In a post by the DCP on X, police said videos urging people to assemble at Jantar Mantar were also circulating, but no approval had been issued for such gatherings.
The DCP noted that prohibitory orders under Section 144 are already in force and appealed to the public not to believe or share false information, warning of strict action against those spreading rumours.
