France’s first major Hindu temple to open near Paris on Sept 2

A large Hindu temple built near Paris is set to open on September 2, marking what is being described as France’s first major Hindu temple.

The temple, named the BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir, has been constructed in Bussy-Saint-Georges, on the outskirts of the French capital.

Following the inauguration, a 13-day cultural festival will be held from September 2 to 14. The programme is expected to feature events highlighting Hindu religious traditions, spirituality, arts and wider Indian culture.

Organisers and observers see the project as a significant milestone for Hindu and Indian cultural life in France. The temple has been designed by Indian architects and built in France with traditional Indian stone craftsmanship.
