Chennai: A video circulating rapidly on social media, showing a woman in black stepping out of a car, has triggered online commentary, with some users claiming the woman is Industries Minister Keerthana.

In a statement, Keerthana said the person in the video is not her. She added that even if it were her, she does not see what is wrong with it, and questioned why a woman’s clothing, appearance or happiness continues to be treated as something to be judged or investigated in public.

The minister said such episodes reveal a backward mindset, and argued that when critics cannot raise questions about policies, governance or performance, they resort to creating imagined stories about leaders and their family members’ personal lives.

Keerthana also apologised to the woman who was drawn into the controversy due to facial resemblance, and urged her to continue living her life as she chooses.
