A purported leaked audio recording circulating online has sparked fresh attention around the 2023 killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. In the clip, fugitive gangster Goldy Brar is heard claiming responsibility for Nijjar’s death.
Nijjar was shot dead by unidentified assailants on June 19, 2023, in Canada. At the time, then Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India’s involvement, a charge New Delhi firmly denied, leading to a strain in bilateral ties. The report notes that the situation has shifted somewhat after a change in government in Canada.
According to the leaked conversation, the call was between Goldy Brar and UK-based Khalistan militant Paramjit Singh. In the audio, Brar alleges that Nijjar was building a drug network and encouraged teenagers aged 16 to 17 to sell narcotics, while also backing those who issued threats.
Brar further claims Nijjar attempted to smuggle illegal weapons, and says this led to a situation where Nijjar “had to be killed,” adding that actions have consequences. The authenticity of the audio has not been independently verified in the report.
Goldy Brar is described as being linked to multiple criminal cases in India and is named as a key accused in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. The Union government has designated him a terrorist, and the United States has announced a reward for information about him, the report said.
