Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Nirmal Kumar on Saturday alleged that the DMK is functioning under the “full control” of the BJP. Speaking to reporters in Tirupparankundram in Madurai district, he questioned whether citizens could obtain even a single certificate or signature from government offices without paying bribes during the previous regime, and asked how the situation stands now.
He also referred to the transformer procurement irregularities case, saying it has remained pending for three years and that a major corruption scandal had taken place. He claimed even the court has raised questions about why the case has not been pursued.
On the INDIA alliance, Nirmal Kumar said only parties with MPs could be brought into the coalition. He added that after the Lok Sabha election results, a decision would be taken on whether the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) would join and work with the alliance once it secures MPs.
Responding to remarks attributed to opposition leader Udhayanidhi, he said the ruling side is compelled to answer if “unnecessary” statements are made. He also criticised opposition parties for opposing cars for MLAs, alleging they spend large sums to win seats but fail to provide basic facilities to the public.
Earlier, at a TVK public meeting in Madurai, Nirmal Kumar said the people had already “punished” the DMK. He further claimed the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, should be whitewashed and rented out, alleging that assets are held under the Murasoli Trust and that there is competition to take control of the trust.
