Tiruchi: Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh on Sunday criticised DMK MLAs and former ministers for what he described as unruly behaviour in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchi, the minister said the government answers questions in a democratic manner and that first-time members from his side present their views with dignity. He alleged that DMK members shout, interrupt line by line and create disorder, while former ministers seated in the back benches use inappropriate language when current ministers speak.
Ramesh said it is not wrong for ministers to respond to questions raised at the Chief Minister and the government. He also announced that a temple trustee appointment committee would be formed after the budget session concludes.
Referring to recent HR&CE-related announcements, the minister alleged that DMK members have been spreading “false propaganda” since midnight after the statements were issued. He questioned why a former DMK minister would contact officials to obtain details about the department’s announcements and said action would be taken against the concerned government officials in connection with the matter.
He added that governance changes cannot be made overnight and said steps are being taken to control isolated incidents. Drawing a comparison with Tirupati, he said devotees there deposit luggage and phones at counters and wait calmly for long hours, and expressed hope that a similar mindset would develop among visitors to temples in Tamil Nadu.
