Chennai: Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar has issued a stern warning to MLAs against publishing Assembly notices on social media or sharing them with media organisations without prior permission.
In a statement made in the House, the Speaker said notices submitted under rules such as 55 and 56 are meant to be routed through the Assembly Secretary or the Speaker, after which they can be admitted and taken up for discussion.
He noted that some members—without naming anyone—were writing notices and immediately passing them to YouTube channels, television networks and newspapers. He also pointed out that notices were being posted on members’ personal Facebook pages and on X.
The Speaker said such publication before the Chair’s approval violates the Assembly’s rules, referring specifically to Rule 36(5), which bars any member or any other person from publishing a notice until it is approved and communicated to the member.
From today, he said, the instruction applies to all outlets, including TV channels, newspapers and other media, and urged everyone to act strictly in line with House rules.
