Sharp attack at a public function
Opposition leader Udhayanidhi on Saturday launched a strong critique of the TVK government, saying its functioning had reached a point where people could ask whether it was “running a government or a circus company”. He made the remarks while attending a wedding function in Pattukkottai in Thanjavur district.
Refers to earlier protest and arrest
Recalling his earlier protest in Thanjavur in support of farmers’ demands, he said he was not afraid of arrests. He claimed he was detained after raising the issue of Cauvery water, and alleged that the government later sought an apology in court and backtracked by saying he was only questioned and released.
Questions on farmer support and MLA cars
Udhayanidhi said farmers were the worst affected under the present administration. He alleged that Chief Minister Vijay had said there was no money for drought relief and farm loan waiver, but questioned how funds were available to purchase cars for MLAs. He added that the DMK had stated it did not want cars for its MLAs and urged the government to resolve farmers’ issues instead.
Criticism of Assembly conduct and governance
He also accused the government of not answering questions in the Assembly, alleging that ministers and ruling party MLAs were more focused on making “reels” than responding to public issues such as farmers’ problems and law and order. Claiming that Tamil Nadu had achieved 11.19% growth under the DMK, he said the current government was pushing the state backwards.
