A social media post by a Karnataka woman has sparked debate after she claimed to have rejected a marriage proposal despite the groom earning about ₹40 lakh a year.
According to the woman, identified as Aruhi Reddy, the prospective groom was good-looking and came from a good family background. She said she turned down the proposal for one reason: his Instagram profile mentioned Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi as his role model.
In her post, she criticised Rahul Gandhi and argued that her country and religion mattered more to her than money, appearance or a good job. She also described herself as a “nationalist Hindu” and said she could not accept someone who considers Rahul Gandhi a role model.
The post was widely shared by BJP supporters and drew mixed reactions online. Netizens have posted comments both in support and opposition, while memes have also circulated. Some users also pointed to her earlier pro-BJP posts and criticised her.
