Chennai: Tamil Nadu is stepping up efforts to attract foreign direct investment, with Industry Minister Keerthana set to visit Taiwan on September 4 and Chief Minister Vijay scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom on September 10.

Officials said the state is facing intense competition with Andhra Pradesh in drawing industrial investments in the southern region, prompting the government to accelerate outreach to global companies.

A “Semicon” conference involving firms from multiple countries working in semiconductors, AI and chip-related sectors is being held in Taiwan this week. Keerthana, along with a team that includes representatives from guidance agencies, is expected to participate in meetings there to pitch Tamil Nadu as an investment destination.

The Chief Minister will lead a high-level delegation of industry officials to the UK, with the tour extending until September 16 and covering the UK and other countries. The delegation plans to meet investors and invite companies to set up operations in Tamil Nadu.

Industry officials noted that after the DMK-led government took charge in May, Keerthana had earlier visited South Korea to hold talks with investors in shipbuilding companies. They added that this will be Vijay’s first official overseas visit since assuming office as Chief Minister.
