Kathmandu: Amid Nepal’s devastating floods, a black-and-white pet dog has moved many by refusing to leave the remains of a washed-away home while waiting for its missing owners.

The disaster followed a glacier collapse last week, triggering sudden flooding. Reports say the death toll is nearing 1,000, with more than 3,000 people still missing. Trishuli Bazaar and Rasuwa were among the worst-hit areas, where several houses were swept away.

In Trishuli Bazaar, the dog—still wearing its collar—has reportedly remained in the same spot for days among the debris. Even as rescue teams and JCB machines worked nearby, it did not move away and kept its distance from people.

Animal welfare volunteers have been providing dry food and water from afar because the dog would not allow anyone close. A video of the scene has gone viral online, highlighting the bond pets share with their families.

In other flood-affected areas such as Rasuwa, some dogs have been rescued and safely handed back to their owners, including a deaf pet dog named “Sweety” that was reportedly trapped for four days. Related rescue videos are also circulating widely on social media.
