Chennai: Minister Nirmal Kumar on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the DMK, alleging that during its tenure, ministers in every district functioned like “minor kings” and facilitated collections through intermediaries.
Speaking to reporters, he claimed that mineral resources were transported without proper measurement and without GST, and said Enforcement Directorate searches had brought multiple irregularities to light.
He said the present government has drawn up new plans to ensure minerals are quarried in a regulated manner, and that extraction would be limited strictly to quantities permitted by the government.
The minister added that penalties, if imposed, must be paid without exception. He also alleged that DMK functionaries had collected thousands of crores earlier, and asserted that such practices would not continue now.
On political remarks, he said there was nothing controversial in stating that actor Vijay should become Prime Minister, adding that people often wish for a leader from Tamil Nadu. He also insisted there was no contradiction within the alliance and urged against turning the issue into a daily debate.
