A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) was arrested by the Tiruppur Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) police for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 to process a patta name transfer.

Police said the incident took place in Veerasozhapuram near Vellakovil in Tiruppur district. The complainant, Ramasamy (76), a farmer from Pongalur, had approached VAO Arun Kumar (34) seeking subdivision of his land and a change of name in the patta.

According to the complaint, the VAO demanded Rs 30,000 to complete the work. Unwilling to pay, the farmer approached the anti-corruption police and lodged a complaint.

Following the complaint, officials arranged a trap and provided chemically treated currency notes. When the farmer handed over the money, DVAC personnel who were waiting nearby caught the VAO red-handed and arrested him.
