Punjab University’s student union elections saw candidates from student wings linked to major political parties, including the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contesting key posts.
ABVP, the BJP-affiliated student organisation, won the president’s post for a second consecutive term. Its candidate Angit Pithan secured 3,149 votes to clinch the victory.
AAP’s student wing, ASAP, fielded Adil Brar, who finished second with 512 fewer votes than the winner.
The election also drew attention due to support extended by the Shiromani Akali Dal’s student wing, triggering discussions about possible new political alignments ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
Separately, the report noted that a newly formed group described as operating with AAP support has not gained influence in Punjab, a point it said was reflected in the election outcome.
