Chief Minister Vijay, after opening the release of water from the Mettur dam for delta irrigation, left for Salem airport, according to reports.
On the way around 2 pm, when his convoy passed near Chinnakavoor close to the Mettur thermal power station, he noticed a farming family working by the roadside—Ramasamy (60), his wife Palaniammal (52) and his sister Chellam (73).
Vijay reportedly asked the vehicle to stop, got down and visited Ramasamy’s home. The family welcomed him inside, where he spoke with Chellam about their agricultural work and interacted warmly with her.
During the visit, the Chief Minister presented spectacles to the elderly woman. He also distributed a dhoti and silk sarees to members of the family, conveyed his wishes, and then continued his journey.
Later, at Thimirikottai in Mecheri, he also stopped to enquire about the well-being of three elderly women standing by the roadside, the report said.
