New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens to strengthen the economy by choosing domestic options—using swadeshi products, travelling within India and conducting weddings in the country.
In a video message shared on social media, Modi pointed to India’s GDP growth of 7.8% in the first quarter (April–June) of the 2026–27 financial year, higher than the Reserve Bank’s 7% projection. He said the performance reflects the collective resolve and hard work of the people, and congratulated everyone who contributed.
The Prime Minister said the world is facing wars and multiple crises, and that global supply chains have been disrupted, with instability persisting since the COVID-19 period in 2020. Despite this, he said, India continues to move ahead at a rapid pace.
To sustain and further boost growth, Modi urged Indians to prioritise domestic tourism and hold weddings within the country. He also advised avoiding gold purchases unless there is an essential need, and said giving greater importance to swadeshi and self-reliance would help maintain economic momentum.
Modi added that he is confident India can hand over a developed nation to its youth by the time the country celebrates its 100th Independence Day. He also alleged that opposition parties, unable to accept the country’s progress, are spreading baseless rumours and asked people not to believe them.
