Tamil Nadu has begun preparing the list of eligible beneficiaries for the ‘Maternal Uncle Gold Ring’ scheme, under which a gold ring will be provided to babies born in government hospitals.
The state has announced that the scheme will be launched on September 15, marking former Chief Minister C N Annadurai’s birth anniversary. Mothers do not need to submit applications to receive the benefit.
Officials are collecting birth details from government hospitals and primary health centres. From pregnant women, departments are obtaining Aadhaar, smart card information, PICME number, and the mother’s bank account details, along with hospital discharge documents to be kept ready.
At the government hospital alone, around 500 to 550 deliveries take place every month. Including primary health centres, more than 11,500 beneficiaries have been identified so far.
Government hospital doctors said eligible families will receive an invitation on the day the scheme begins, and the beneficiary count is expected to rise as births occur daily.
