An assistant electrical engineer with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has been arrested by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) police for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 to provide an electricity connection.
According to the complaint, Sivaselvan (47) of Kasturibai Nagar in West Tambaram had applied on July 9 for an additional single-phase power connection for a house registered in his father Jayaraman’s name. After paying the required fee, the application was later rejected on August 6.
It is alleged that the assistant engineer, identified as Chandran, demanded Rs 10,000 to proceed with the request and later reduced the demand to Rs 7,000.
Sivaselvan reportedly refused to pay and approached the DVAC. Following the complaint, officials laid a trap and arrested Chandran red-handed while receiving the Rs 7,000, police said.
