New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully test-fired an indigenously developed glide bomb named Gagantak-243, designed to hit targets accurately from long distances.
Air-delivered munitions used for strikes are often imported. The Union government has been working to build domestic capability in this area, and the Gagantak-243 is part of that push.
According to the report, the glide bombs were designed and developed by JSR Dynamics. Once released from an aircraft, the weapon is engineered to travel towards the target using aerodynamic lift.
When dropped from an aircraft flying at around 12 km altitude, the bomb can reportedly engage targets at distances ranging from 144 km to a maximum of 180 km. This would allow strikes on targets inside hostile territory without crossing into the adversary’s airspace.
Following the successful test, the IAF said on X that its strike capability has reached a new high. However, no details were disclosed about where the trial was conducted.
