Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh has been hit by flooding following continuous heavy rainfall, disrupting daily life across several areas of the state. Waterlogging on roads has affected movement, while floodwater entering homes has added to residents’ difficulties.
Officials said the Ganga river is in spate and has crossed the danger level, prompting alerts for people living along the riverbanks. Relief camps have been set up, and residents from low-lying areas have been moved to safer locations.
In this backdrop, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose parliamentary constituency is Varanasi, reviewed the situation by speaking over the phone with District Collector Satyendra Kumar. He sought detailed information on the flood surge in the Ganga and the arrangements made at relief camps.
The Prime Minister instructed the district administration to ensure that affected people receive all emergency necessities without delay and to carry out relief operations on a war footing.
