Mumbai: Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Munde has urged the public to be more conscious about what they consume, saying people often focus on appearance and clothing but neglect the importance of food.
Speaking at a conference in Mumbai, Munde said individuals should clearly understand what they are eating, including the kind of proteins and carbohydrates they take in, and whether their diet truly supports both body and mind. Creating awareness about food, he added, is among his key priorities.
He stressed that a person’s health and even appearance are shaped by what they eat, how they eat, how much they eat and when they eat. Munde called for balanced meals with appropriate protein and calories, and advised avoiding fried items and foods high in fat, sugar and sodium.
On enforcement, Munde said the department does not discriminate between small eateries and five-star establishments, noting that standard operating procedures and rules apply uniformly. He said action has been taken against vada pav outlets as well as some prominent clubs in Mumbai, and that compliance with regulations is the only yardstick.
Munde also said he has stopped eating out due to safety concerns, adding that his family too avoids frequent dining outside and now pays closer attention to where they choose to eat.
