Hyderabad: Telangana Forest Minister Konda Surekha has been removed from the state cabinet following a controversy triggered by remarks made by her daughter, Sushmita, against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The issue began after the Chief Minister, speaking at a public meeting in Parkal, urged voters to ensure that local MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy wins the next election with a bigger majority.
Responding to this, Sushmita questioned why the Chief Minister was coming to the Konda area and asking people to re-elect Prakash Reddy. She also alleged that the Chief Minister and his brother were “looting” the government, accused those around him of acting as brokers, and said they were misleading him.
Following the remarks, opposition parties including the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the BJP criticised the Congress government. The Congress high command sought an explanation from Surekha through a notice, to which she replied that Sushmita’s comments were her personal views.
Amid the fallout, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recommended to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla that Konda Surekha be removed from her ministerial post.
