Chennai: Annamalai, founder of the organisation We The Leaders, has said that the rule barring devotees from carrying mobile phones into temples is causing avoidable inconvenience.
In a statement, he noted that the restriction has led to long queues even to obtain a token priced at Rs 5. He said devotees who come for a peaceful darshan are instead facing added tension and hardship due to the arrangement.
Annamalai argued that temple administrative rules should make it easier for people to practise their faith and exercise their right to worship, and should not create obstacles that make visiting a temple feel burdensome.
He cautioned against imposing difficulties on lakhs of devotees for the mistakes of a few, and urged the Tamil Nadu government to immediately reconsider and withdraw the practice. Temples, he said, should remain places that offer peace and faith, not anxiety and long lines.
